One of the good things I’m learning by doing the TERRA Fit Challenge is that eating late at night is just plain not good for you. We’ve been midnight munchers around here for a lonnnng time. In fact, it was quite common for one of the guys to go on a late night run to whatever fast food place was open, and bring back bags and bags of food that we’d scour through as we watched a late night movie.
It hasn’t been entirely easy to give up that habit, but it is getting better. We’ve gotten good at just putting away whatever food is out and making sure there is ice water for everyone. My handy-dandy concoction of 5 drops of Lemon and 1 drop of Peppermint Essential Oils in my ice water really does the trick. I feel like I’m having a fancy drink at an exotic restaurant or something. At any rate, it’s working for me. And now, instead of eating a whole other meal at 11:00 at night, I read for a while, and (gasp!) actually go to bed.
What a clever idea.

simple as that.
Fabulous, powerful stuff.
This week has been lovely and full of tons of good stuff. On this program we are advised to drink at least 64 ounces of water a day. For my weight, is should be closer to a gallon. Yeeeeah. And let me tell you that ANYbody who is drinking a gallon of water a day is running to the rest room a LOT. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though because I’ve been told by many a wise health coach, that water flushes out toxins and facilitates weight loss.
One gallon of water a day? I’m in.
Another thing is to have uplifting oils in the diffuser each day, especially when you’re working out. My favorites are Peppermint mixed with Wild Orange.
Sometimes I like both of the oils on my wrists–for a close up effect, but nothing beats these heavenly scents wafting through the whole basement!
And I’ve found a best friend for my workout routines–the magical summer fan on full speed. It’s so much easier to do hard things when there’s a nice cool breeze blowing.
Yep, this week has been filled with good stuff and the very best part?
I lost 3 more pounds!!

One afternoon, the bald kid came home from work and said, just as casually as you please, “Hey, mom. You wanna go swimming?”
Now, I know swimming is a good thing. It’s wet. It’s cool. It’s fun.
But remember that 115 pounds that I’m going to lose? Yes, well–before I’ve actually lost it, putting on a swim suit isn’t my idea of a good time.
Then my cute boy said, “Mom, no one will care. They’ll think, ‘good for her, she’s moving!’ And if somebody does care, fig ‘em.” That’s…um…Russian for…well, maybe you can figure it out.
I started thinking–and it came to me that if I let my weight keep me from doing something that I would actually love to do, with my son, before he is married and gone–so to speak, well then, that would be sad and lame and I would never get these chances back.
I would regret it. And I hate that.
So, without letting myself think about it too much longer, because sometimes those voices in the back of your head need to just hush–I jumped up and threw on my swimsuit and my pretty pink cover up dress thingy.
And. I. Went.
Oh, my word. We swam, and dunked and laughed and splashed and bobbed and floated and dog paddled and choked and sputtered and finally got the hang of the lazy river pool. The mascara ran off my face and I nearly drowned and I went under a waterfall, and pulled a hamstring and we laughed some more.
It was glorious.
Thank you my sweet boy–for making every ounce of me…brave.

There are a few new things in my fridge these days.
Rice and Almond milk to start with. A few months ago if you’d have suggested that I even taste either of these things I would probably have fallen on the floor and started flipping like a fish. They sounded creepy and very NOT-milk-like.
Over the course of the past few weeks, I’ve learned that “milk” or anything we use as a replacement for it, doesn’t have to come from a cow to be good. Really good, honestly. Almond milk on cereal or in my Trim Shake every morning is barely noticeable as something different at all. And Rice milk is sweeter and lighter than both cow’s or Almond. Here’s the big news…I actually love it. Love.
Oh, the maturity going on around here is incomprehensible.
Stand back, there’s more.
Now, while I realize that it doesn’t take maturity, per se, to have fruits and vegetables in your fridge, it does take a bit more foresight than I am used to using to go grocery shopping now.
Gone are the days when I just grabbed and threw in the cart whatever sounded great at the moment. Oh, I wasn’t terrible, but the occasional bag of Cheetoes and pack of cookies did manage to jump in now and then. Not so interested anymore.
Gone are the days when I planned to hit the ice cream aisle last so alllll my frozen confections wouldn’t melt on the way home. If I’m really “feelin’ it” (as the bald kid would say) I’ll just get an ice cream cone, when I’m out once in a while–no problem. I think I’ve only had one in the last few weeks. Slim & Sassy oil is magic I tell you.
Gone are the days when I planned what I was going to eat in the car on the way home so no one would ever know what decadent choices I had made. The thought never even goes through my mind anymore. I swear.
And lastly, but not such a big change–is that we are buying whole wheat bread, nothing new– that only has like 4-5 ingredients–also, nothing new. But what is new, is that when I eat a slice of this lovely bread, I swear to you that it tastes like cake. I’m thinking that it might have something to do with the fact that I’m not actually eating cake these days…well, not like I was before…you know, with like…umm…wild abandon. If I want a piece of cake with my weekly free meal then, groovy. I have one. But now it’s a choice that I can make if I want to, or let go if I want to.
Realizing that, makes it easier to actually…let go.
Ooooh, it’s happening, it’s happening! I’m getting a leaner, healthier mindset.

Months and months ago, I asked one of the cute gals at doTERRA if it would be possible to put a recycling box or tub or something out for anyone that would like to do something a little more earth-friendly than just toss out their essential oil bottles. I even offered to collect them and take them over to Target where they have a glass recycling bin. They said it was a good idea, but that they’d have to talk to the folks in charge. Soooooooooo…..
Imagine my surprise to find that the doTERRA Will Call center in Orem now has a bottle recycling bin–right there in the lobby! Woohooo!!
Now, I can finally figure out what to do with all of these.
Happy. Happy. Happy.
Having a heavenly fruit and veggie Jama this morning–and it’s TOTALLY legal! I LOVE TERRA Fit because it gives me guidelines about basic healthy and not so healthy foods and lets me choose how I put them together. I’m learning a ton about what works and does not work for me.
Six small meals or snacks are feeling much better than 3 whopping meals each day. I’m such a nibbler that this is very satisfying to me. Eating 4 servings of vegetables each day is also a big, HUGE change. I have had many periods of time in my life when I couldn’t remember the last time I had a fresh vegetable. It was sad and scary, but very, very true. I’m finding that raw zucchini isn’t as evil as I always believed it to be…even withOUT Ranch dip.
To be honest, I’d love to see my weight dropping off like it is for some people in the program. But what I know is that, when you have about 100 pounds to lose, it just isn’t possible to jump and bounce and hop like the smaller people do, and that I can pant and sweat just marching in place. So I know that I’ll have to be patient and go a bit slower. Once I’ve lost 20 pounds or so, I’ll be able to move just a bit better and keep going from there.
In the meantime, down is still down and I’ll take it.

Just in case you were wondering what the heck TERRA Fit is–watch this short video and you’ll have the idea.
I do have to follow the moderate level, but I’m moving more and more each week–and that’s important. I have quite a bit to lose, but I’ll get there.
